Black Friday is still a key date in the retail calendar, but on TikTok, it’s an entire season.
TikTok Shop’s official Black Friday and Cyber Monday Campaign runs from the 11th to the 30th November, with Black Friday on the 27th and Cyber Monday on the 30th November. But the most important date isn’t necessarily the peak weekends... it’s right now.
TikTok’s campaign structure makes the timeline clear:
- 3-12 November: short-video hashtag activity begins
- 6 -12 November: preheat, sampling, product selection and LIVE planning
- 13 November: campaign launch
- 20 November: pre-peak momentum
- 27 November: Black Friday peak
- 28 - 29 November: last-chance content and offers
- 30 November: Cyber Monday
TikTok’s UK Black Friday checklist is very clear: brands and creators should choose hero products, prepare content, request samples, schedule LIVEs and begin testing what works well before the main campaign begins.
The mistake is to treat TikTok Shop as an afterthought, it isn’t another media placement, it’s where product interest is created, tested and converted in public.
The feed is now part of the trading plan
For years, ecommerce planning has followed a familiar order: select the products, set the price, build the landing page, prepare the pad media, brief the creative team, then, somewhere near the end, brief the social team.
That sequence no longer reflects how people discover products. Product discovery is expanding beyond traditional retail websites, and consumers move between brand sites, marketplaces, AI agents and social platforms depending on what they are buying and how much research they need to do.
TikTok is particularly important because a shopper doesn’t need to arrive with a product in mind. Intent can come from watching a creator explain their skincare routine, an authentic reaction to a new product discovery, or a LIVE stream demonstration. The content creates the question, builds the consideration and increasingly, enables the purchase.
McKinsey describes this shift as social commerce becoming a commercial capability spanning merchandising, creator partnerships, customer engagement and conversion, not simply another marketing channel. That changes the role of the feed, it needs to be planned with the same care as a website, warehouse of paid media campaign.
Black Friday is a testing period, not a single moment
The strongest TikTok campaigns are rarely built around one perfect video; they’re built through iteration.
A hook creates comments, a demonstration answers a question, a creator makes the product feel relevant, a LIVE reveals where shoppers hesitate, and a follow-up video turns that hesitation into a reason to buy. This is why the lead-up period matters.
At the very beginning of November, brands should be testing:
- Which products are easiest for creators to explain naturally
- Which hooks generate genuine questions and comments
- Which demonstrations make the product’s value obvious
- Which creators can build trust without making the content feel scripted
- Which offers feel meaningful rather than simply discounted
- Which products have enough stock and margin to support demand
TikTok’s own guidance recommends batch-filming content, testing different formats and planning around key dates including 13, 20, 27 and 30 November. It also encourages brands to use performance data to refine what they publish throughout the campaign.
This means that the first few posts aren’t just campaign assets, they are evidence and tell you what your audience wants and where to spend.
Creators turn discovery into demand
Creators should help shape the Back Friday campaign, they know which questions their audience ask, which product benefits matter and which claims feel believable. Forrester found that 81% of Gen Z consumers have discovered products to buy on social media, while 71% find most their gift inspiration on social platforms.
The content that resonates isn’t the most polished, it’s the content that makes to product easy to understand and gives people a reason to care. This is where the TikTok LIVE comes in.
TikTok LIVE gives shoppers the chance to see products demonstrated, ask questions and get reassurances in real time. TikTok Shop shopping content grew by 1,017% between August and September 2026, while last year’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday period generated more than 760,000 livestream sessions and 1.6 billion views.
But a successful LIVE isn’t as simple as it sounds, the host needs to understand the products and offerings inside out, while the brand needs to be ready with accurate stock, delivery information and customer support. If demand outpaces fulfilment, it becomes much more than a content problem.
The brands that win will start before the noise
By the 13th November, your campaign should already be moving, by the 20th, you should have refined your learnings and know which products, creators and formats deserve more attention.
That is the advantage of starting early, not more content for the sake of it, but better content built for evidence to ensure that when peak hits, you are prepared and know exactly what performs and where to focus your resource.
Black Friday on TikTok does not begin when the discount goes live, it begins when a shopper first sees a product, hears someone explain why it matters and starts thinking: I might need that. The brands ready for that moment will be the ones that started listening weeks earlier.
