Job Description

We are seeking a versatile and technically skilled Audio & Lighting Assistant to join our studio team. This is a hybrid technical role, combining expertise in lighting, sound engineering, photography support, rigging, and virtual production.

The successful candidate will bring hands on experience across both sound and lighting disciplines, with the ability to operate confidently in fast-paced studio environments. They will be central to ensuring the smooth, safe, and high-quality delivery of productions across branded content, ecommerce, social media, live streaming, and virtual production.

This role is perfect for someone who thrives on variety, enjoys problem solving, and wants to work at the cutting edge of modern studio production.

Key Responsibilities

Lighting & Photography

  • Plan, rig, and operate lighting setups for video, photography, and hybrid shoots.
  • Lead on pre-light days, manage de-rigs, and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Collaborate with Directors of Photography, photographers, and creatives to deliver lighting that enhances both brand identity and creative intent.
  • Provide occasional photography support, including basic capture, tethering, and on-set content support.

Sound Engineering

  • Record high-quality audio across multiple formats: dialogue, voiceover, ambient, and foley.
  • Operate boom and wireless microphone systems with confidence.
  • Monitor and mix live sound on set, troubleshooting issues in real time.
  • Deliver clean, well labelled files to post-production teams, carrying out basic editing and syncing where required.

Virtual Production (VP)

  • Support the setup, calibration, and operation of LED screens for virtual production.
  • Assist with camera tracking, Unreal Engine workflows, and playback systems.
  • Provide technical support and creative input during VP shoots.

Rigging & Studio Operations

  • Carry out lighting rigging operations in compliance with LOLER and PUWER regulations.
  • Support lifting operations, ensuring appropriate planning, supervision, and safe execution.
  • Ensure risk assessments, RAMS, and health & safety protocols are always followed.
  • Operate safely in line with Work at Height Regulations.
  • Confidently use and manage electric hoists, truss systems, MEWPs, ladders, and other rigging equipment.
  • Support kit coordination, studio resets, and general studio upkeep.

Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrable experience across lighting and sound roles within video and/or photography production.
  • Strong technical knowledge of lighting design, rigging systems, and safety standards (UK).
  • Proven ability in audio capture, mixing, and troubleshooting for professional productions.
  • Understanding of photographic lighting principles: exposure, colour balancing, and modifiers.
  • Familiarity with virtual production workflows; working knowledge of Unreal Engine is advantageous.
  • Highly organised with a methodical approach to kit coordination and studio logistics.
  • Comfortable working in both creative and technical environments, liaising with multiple stakeholders.

Mandatory Training / Qualifications

  • Work at Height Awareness Training – safe practice, risk assessment, fall protection.
  • Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) Training – IPAF or equivalent accreditation.
  • Ladder Safety & Inspection Training – correct use and inspection for ladders/steps.
  • Rigging Training – PLASA or NRC (National Rigging Certificate), or equivalent.
  • Awareness of CDM Regulations and compliance in studio environments.
  • Experience in electric hoist operation desirable.
