Software Engineer

As a Software Engineer in our engineering team, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and delivering scalable microservices within THG Ingenuity’s ecommerce platform. Leveraging modern technologies, predominantly Java 21, you will work as part of an agile team to architect and build highly available, distributed systems that are critical to the business.

You will write high-quality, testable, and maintainable code, while helping to design new services that can scale for the future. You will also collaborate with product owners and stakeholders to deliver impactful solutions, take ownership of complex projects, and mentor junior engineers.

What will you be responsible for?

• Designing, building, and evolving microservice-based architectures for our ecommerce platform.
• Developing high-quality, scalable, and resilient code in Java.
• Working with your team to design and evolve new distributed services for high scalability and availability.
• Writing comprehensive test suites and applying best practices in software engineering.
• Collaborating with product owners, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to deliver business-critical projects.
• Identifying and resolving issues with customer-facing and internal services.
• Mentoring and guiding junior engineers, sharing expertise in microservices and distributed systems.

What are we looking for?

• Strong experience with microservice architecture and service-oriented design principles.
• Expertise in Java (minimum Java 11, Java 21 preferred).
• Experience across the full software development lifecycle (design, implementation, deployment, monitoring).
• Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and integrating with third-party/internal services.
• Strong understanding of software engineering best practices including testing, CI/CD, and security.
• Knowledge of relational databases (Microsoft SQL Server; CockroachDB experience is a plus).
• Experience mentoring and supporting junior engineers.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
