On February 26th, we made history. At our Manchester headquarters, THG Studios delivered The World’s First AI-Driven, Immersive, Shoppable Catwalk, a landmark event certified by the World Record Certification Agency.
In partnership with Topshop, PayPal, and Google Cloud, we set out to prove a bold vision for the future of brand experience. The goal was to close the ever-widening gap between brand inspiration and consumer purchase. The result was a living, breathing, shoppable ecosystem that provided a tangible outlook for the next era of commerce.
Here are the five key lessons we learned about the future of retail.
1. The Experience IS the Checkout
For decades, the customer journey has been a multi-step process: see an ad, visit a store, go to a website. Our catwalk event proved that the experience itself can be the point of sale. By equipping guests with our bespoke ‘Front Row AI’ app, we transformed a passive audience into active participants. They could interact with looks, try them on virtually, and purchase them directly from the runway in real-time. The traditional sales funnel was not just shortened; it was collapsed into a single, seamless moment. This is instant commerce.
2. AI is the Ultimate Personalisation Engine
The event was built with AI, delivered by AI, and amplified by AI. But this wasn’t about replacing human creativity; it was about enhancing it at scale. From an AI host that guided the guest journey, to AI stylists that offered personalised recommendations, we demonstrated how AI can create a uniquely personal experience for every single attendee. This deep level of engagement, which included virtual try-on technology, proved to be a powerful driver of purchase intent, showing that the future of customer connection lies in tailored, tech-driven interactions.
3. Community Creates Commercial Momentum
An event is no longer defined by who is in the room, but by the community it inspired. Our panel discussion with leaders from WGSN, Pinterest and Topshop brought together diverse perspectives on the future of the fashion industry. We integrated students from the University of Salford and Manchester Metropolitan University into the show’s creation and finale, investing in the next generation of talent. By creating a shared experience for creators, industry leaders, and future stars, the event’s impact was amplified, turning a one-night event into a bigger community moment.
