Systems Engineer - Automated Fulfilment (AutoStore)
Location: UK (National travel required)
Reporting to: Engineering Manager / Automation Manager
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and flexible Mobile AutoStore Engineer to support, maintain, and optimise AutoStore systems across multiple sites. This role involves extensive travel and hands-on technical responsibility to ensure high system availability, performance, and reliability within fast-paced automated warehouse environments.
You will play a critical role in diagnosing faults, performing preventative maintenance, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across our automation network.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide on-site and remote technical support for AutoStore systems across multiple locations
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on AutoStore grids, robots, ports, and associated equipment
- Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, and software faults efficiently to minimise downtime
- Support system performance optimisation, identifying opportunities to improve throughput and reliability
- Assist with installations, upgrades, and commissioning of AutoStore systems
- Work closely with site operations teams to ensure minimal disruption to service
- On call requirements for out of hours support.
- Escalate complex issues to OEMs or internal engineering teams where required
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, reports, and documentation
- Ensure compliance with health & safety standards across all sites
- Participate in on-call rota where required to support operational uptime
Role Requirements as a Mobile AutoStore Engineer
- Proven experience working with AutoStore systems (highly desirable) or similar automated warehouse technologies (e.g. ASRS, shuttle systems, robotics)
- Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills
- Understanding of PLC systems and controls (Siemens, Beckhoff, or similar advantageous)
- Experience working in highly automated distribution or manufacturing environments
- Ability to work independently across multiple sites with minimal supervision
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel extensively
- HNC/HND or equivalent in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering (or relevant experience)
- Recognised engineering apprenticeship (preferred)
- Health & Safety certifications (e.g. IOSH/NEBOSH – desirable)
